In this tutorial I am going to look at how to create a vlookup that references an external file. Secondly please bear in mind that if the file is moved your formulas will stop working.
First of all you need to have both the file with the Vlookup formula and the reference file open.
This is the starting formula file and this is the external file we will be using.
Note as well that you if you need to check where the external file is stored, you navigate to Data | Workbook links. (If you have an older version of Excel, this might look a bit different but you should be able to check the path for your file in a link in the same location – I think it was called Edit Links).
