One of the big current changes in our world at the moment is the upsurge in AI (Artificial Intelligence). I think we are still “making the path” when it comes to AI so at this point there’s a lot of experimentation with it.
I have Co-Pilot enabled with my 365 subscription so that’s what I am going to be using in this demo. Some provisos and I note that this is changing all the time. I have experimented with Co-Pilot quite a bit and there can be an element of “unexpected item in bagging area” about the results.
If you are using Co-Pilot you need to have the following:
- Your file must be uploaded to OneDrive
- It has to be in a table format.
- Autosave must be on.

When I do this little experiment, I plan to touch on those four aspects but not necessarily “in any particular order” as they say in the best talent shows..
I want the goal to be a set of charts that shows the basic demographics of the group and also 5-6 of the main findings. I want the context to be that I am creating a dashboard in Excel that shows the main characteristics of the data set but also the 5-6 main findings. I also want it to highlight any insights or trends that would be helpful for a management team trying to understand the benefits and drawbacks of using remote work. The source will be the file presented. My expectation is that I want the output to summarize the main findings and have it ready to copy and paste into a PowerPoint presentation.
My final prompt is as follows.
Using the current file, please create a set of charts on a separate sheet that will show the main characteristics of the data e.g. total respondents, gender breakdown, age breakdown, household breakdown. Please show the main findings of the data around findings on remote work. Please identify any insights or trends that would be helpful for a management team trying to understand the benefits and drawbacks of using remote work. I want the output to summarize the main findings and have it ready to copy and paste into a PowerPoint presentation.

Even though I thought I had created a reasonably clear prompt, Co-Pilot needed me to be a lot more granular in my instructions. Next option will be to attempt the same task in Chat-GPT.
